MOM’S DEFENSE: A Short Poem from David O’Boyle’s Universe to yours

Mom’s Defense!

Hungry son
opens fridge
sees
plastic to-go box
stained in marinara sauce
feels
a plastic to-go box
with some weight to it
meaning
a meal’s in there
beyond just pasta
meaning
Mom went to lunch!
Hungry son thinks he scores chicken parm
until he tastes it
feels
the seeds in his teeth
Ugh…EGGPLANT!
Mom wins again.
