February 15

What a difference a day makes.
If my heart was picked
yesterday
I would have been
undressed
slowly
sensuously
around roses and champagne
by lovers
craving caramel
instead of cigarettes
for a holiday nightcap.
But my heart was not picked.
Dropped and damaged in transit
I was bound
for the February 15 clearance rack
to be rolled over by cheapskates
and caressed by coupon clippers.
My end comes in the company of cavities.
My fate is a broken heart.
