1. Sullen

1. Sullen

Adjective
From the Anglo-Norman
French.
Sulein- meaning sol or solo
The first syllable sull
rhymes with gull
When grey gulls fly in a sullen sky
They are invisible
they match the sky.

The other way sullen is used in regards to nature
Is when something is slow moving
Like a river
A sullen river is a slow moving river
A sullen person would be a person that would sit
Next to a river like that
And feel
Depressed
Melancholy
Gloomy
And resentfully silent
sulking, always sulking, that they got stuck
Sitting next to a sullen river
Rather than rapidly flowing
down whitewater.

Just try going over to that sullen-faced
Pouty and quiet person.
They probably won’t even talk to you
Being so aggrieved
So indignant
That someone,
Somewhere
is sitting by a better non-sullen river
with whitewater,
Never thinking
In all their sullenness
That at least they have a river
Even if it is sullen,
That at least they have a sky
Even if it is sullen
And that their mood can change far easier than the weather
